You’re a Visionary Leader

You’re a big-picture thinker with bold ideas for your nonprofit’s future. You see the long-term impact your organization can have and are determined to make it a reality. You don’t just want to start a nonprofit—you want to build a lasting legacy.

As a Visionary Leader you do these things really well:

  • Big-Picture Thinker: You can see beyond the day-to-day operations and envision the long-term success of your nonprofit. You want to build something that is so much bigger than what you see today.

  • Passionate and Inspiring: Your love for your cause naturally attracts people to you. Supporters, donors, volunteers, and the community at large want to be a part of the movement you are creating because of how you show up!

  • Innovate and Forward-Thinking: You’re not afraid to get scrappy and do things differently. Just because something has been done the same way for as long as everyone can remember doesn’t mean that that’s the way it should be done and you adopt this idea 1000% within your organization. Because of this, you are not afraid to find new ways to create impact for your people.

While you are killing it in so many ways, here are some places you might find yourself getting stuck:

  • Execution Struggles: You have incredible ideas but when it comes to breaking them down into actionable steps and making progress things can feel overwhelming.

  • Shiny Object Syndrome: There are so many great ideas out there, and because you are always thinking ahead, it is easy to jump from one idea to the next without fully implementing a strategy. And while it is good to be adaptable getting distracted by all the shiny objects is actually slowing down your organization’s progress.

  • Lack of Systems: Without structure, your nonprofit can feel chaotic, making it harder to sustain your long-term vision. Your mission is so much bigger than yourself, but without systems, you are limited to your own personal capacity.

So, what can you do to strengthen your leadership and support your nonprofit?

Prioritize & Focus: Identify one major goal to work on each quarter and break it into smaller, manageable steps. When you focus on one thing and bring it to completion, you get places further because you are not dividing your energy and resources across multiple projects

Surround Yourself with Implementers: Partner with detail-oriented team members who can help turn your vision into actionable plans. The better your team, the easier it is to move forward in your organization

Create a Strategic Roadmap: Instead of trying to do everything at once, develop a step-by-step plan to bring your long-term vision to life. This also helps you be more present with what you are doing because you’re not worrying about what’s next. When you have a plan you know the direction you are moving and don’t have to worry about if it is making a difference.
