So a lot has happened in the last week or so both in my personal and professional life which is great! However, it means I have been crazy busy, which has left basically zero time for writing (sorry everyone I promise to find a balance and do better) I am so excited to share all of the cool things that are going on but that is not a post for today (Everyone will have to stay tuned for what's to come 😊).
I had the privilege of talking to some awesome youth recently and they asked me my opinions on a wide range of issues. One subject that we went over was power. Not political power but the power that we have over ourselves, and the power that we sometimes hand over to other people. There are moments when power is given up to others and we don't even realize it. In a society that values so many materialistic things we sometimes forget the inner value that we each hold. During the conversation I was having with these students they made the comment that getting even makes more sense than leaving things alone when others do something wrong to you, this brought up the topic of power and I really wanted to share my thoughts! I think it is easy to sometimes forget where we are going and what we are trying to do when it comes to life. A lot of the time we are just trying to get by, hoping that everything works out in the end. Sometimes we forget the power we each hold. We forget that we are each powerful in our own sense and we each have the ability to change the world in our own way. So what happens when we start allowing others to determine how we use our power? If we do something negative in response to a negative then we are wasting the power we have in a cycle that will never heal, help, or positively affect anyone. By being a part of the problem instead of part of the solution we forfeit a part of our gift, a part of our power, that had the capability of really making an impact. Now some of you may be thinking Breanna not everyone is going to make a lasting impact on the world... And I would have to disagree. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying everyone is going to go find the cure for cancer or something like that but everyone, let me repeat EVERYONE, leaves an impact one way or another. It may be on a person, a city, a classroom, a company, or whatever else but that is still an impact and it is still important. We underestimate the power we have and I think if we each took a moment to recognize that so much of life is controlled by our power we would be more cautious of how we use it. How we speak to ourselves, how we treat others, the way we present ourselves, and how we react to hurtful and threatening situations, all says a lot about us and a lot about how we choose to use our power.
So I ask, what are you doing with your power? What will be your lasting impact? I hope that whatever the answer to those questions may be you are happy with it, but if you aren't it's never to late to change it.
